A one-year-old girl, Cara Reed, from Florence, Arizona, is recovering after surviving a life-threatening rattlesnake bite that required a massive dose of antivenom. The toddler was outside with her mother, Jacquelyn, when the incident occurred earlier this month.

Jacquelyn told 12 News that she had briefly stepped away to throw something in the trash when she heard her daughter scream. Rushing back, she found Cara with four puncture wounds on her foot and spotted the snake coiled near a propane tank.

“I just put two and two together and rushed her to the ER,” she told Fox Local. Reed called ahead to the emergency room to alert staff. Cara was quickly transferred to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where doctors administered 30 vials of antivenom, according to reports.

Her condition was critical as she vomited, lost consciousness, and had difficulty breathing. She was intubated and placed on a ventilator. Doctors discovered that her vocal cords were dangerously swollen.

Jacquelyn Reed told News 12 that specialists warned Cara might need emergency surgery if she didn’t improve quickly. Her aunt, Delia Reed, shared updates on a GoFundMe page, detailing the emotional toll on the family. Fortunately, Cara began to stabilize. She’s now home but still faces surgery and a long recovery.
