10-year-old Andre Howard Jr. was ready to risk his own life as he played superhero to save his younger sister from the Philadelphia plane crash. This bravery cost him a head injury which doctors believed was very serious. But somehow, the young man survived the injury and has since made unbelievable progress.
For Andre and his family, it was just a normal evening to get doughnuts. The 10-year-old was in the car with his dad, and two of his siblings in between Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue when the air ambulance heading for Mexico crashed.
Per ABC 6 Action News, Andre Snr. confirmed that they witnessed the crash, with its effects beginning with fires and debris scattered around. Amid a distressing scenario, Andre Jr. clutches onto his sister while moving her away from the accident debris.
During this time, his father, Andre Howard Sr, noticed a piece of metal behind his son’s head. Yet, the 10-year-old pursued safety for his younger sibling. Once he had put her in safety, Andre Jr’s head injury was attended to.
A stranger eased off the bleeding before the boy was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. Upon sighting the injury, the doctors told the family that it was a serious wound, adding that the boy wasn’t supposed to be alive.
Andre Jr’s parents were grateful to God for their son’s survival. The proud father maintained that his son had put into practice everything he taught him. Sadly, some of the victims of the Philadelphia plane crash were not as lucky as the Howard family. Following the accident, seven people were reported dead while others sustained injuries.
