Sadly, two children in Albany have died after attempting to cross a frozen lake over the weekend at Washington Park and plunging through the ice. The girl, 11, plummeted through the ice while attempting to aid a boy, 12, who fell before her, per the New York Post.
Officials in Albany were able to help the girl and transport her to the hospital where she was reported to be in critical condition. While a dive team discovered the 12-year-old’s corpse close to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. On Tuesday, the unidentified 11-year-old girl was declared deceased.
“It’s just a reminder of how fragile life can be and how important it is that we ensure that our children know and that everyone in our community knows that venturing out onto the ice is not a safe thing to do on any of the bodies of water here,”
Kathy Sheehan, Albany Mayor told WNYT.
