Authorities in northern Mexico discovered 12 skeletons in 11 hidden graves near the US border during a three-day search last week. The graves were in Ascencion, near El Paso, Texas, according to the Chihuahua state prosecutor. If you’re unaware, Mexican cartels and other criminals often use secret graves for their victims. Mexico currently has 120,000 missing people due to these criminal activities, per the New York Post.
On Dec. 18, Mexican officials found the first pit and extended their search, discovering a second and third pit nearby, all including bones, per the state prosecutor. Over the following two days, they uncovered eight more hidden graves with bones.
The state prosecutor said,
“The exhumations were processed by forensic anthropologists and experts from Forensic Services, who collected and packaged evidence such as spent shells of various calibers.”
“The undetermined bones and the evidence found were transferred to the laboratories of the Forensic Medical Service in Cd. Juárez, for analysis and investigations to determine identities, cause and time of death,”
the statement added.
