In Colorado, a dog’s wheelchair was reported stolen by its owner, Megan Caligiuri, from Englewood. Thankfully, some kind-hearted people provided a new wheelchair for the dog.
For more than a decade, Megan Caliguiri owned and cared for the schnauzer mix. He was first a rescue dog before becoming a part of her reality. Together, they toured the country, only for Griff to lose mobility. As he got older, it became harder to walk. So, his beloved owner got him a wheelchair.
The Colorado woman confessed that the wheelchair made life comfortable for her dog. While speaking to a CBS correspondent, Caligiuri added that her pet became an inspiration. People who didn’t know her would often compliment his resilience.
Sadly, the incident which happened on Monday night disrupted their schedule. The dog owner had to switch to lifting her dog for walks. She felt disappointed that anyone would steal something like a dog’s wheelchair.
When it happened, Caligiuri alerted the police and informed her neighbors via a shared platform. An eye witness maintained that the thief was a guy on a bike who carried something with wheels.
While the police have yet to bring the criminal to justice, the neighborhood managed to soothe the dog owner. A handful of people have made donations, which include resources and support. Dog wheels are not easily purchased from stores in Colorado, so when the story reached Paw Prosper, the parent company of Walkin Pets, they replaced the wheelchair.
Kathryn Groenewold from Paw Prosper said they were touched by the story. A team in the company worked tirelessly to ensure the dog’s perfect fit. This gesture further strengthened Caligiuri’s faith in humanity as she thanked the sponsors.
