As 2025 began, two men were killed and eight injured in various slashings, stabbings, and shootings across New York City, officials say. A 50-year-old man was discovered with a neck wound at West 137th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem around 4:20 a.m. He was transported to Harlem Hospital and was sadly, declared dead, officials said, per the New York Post.
Officials reported that a 39-year-old man, a person of interest, was detained for questioning. However, the motive remains unclear.
An hour later, Mario Fowler, 46, was fatally shot, and a man, 23, was injured outside an apartment on East 170th Street, near Clay Avenue in the Bronx, reports say.
In a separate brutal event, three men aged 26, 27, and 30 suffered head slashes on Grand Street near Roebling Street in Williamsburg around 4:50 a.m. They were transported to Woodhull Medical Center and are stable. The reason behind the attack is unknown. An hour following the Times Square ball drop, a 51-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach during a conflict at 38th Street and 8th close to 1 a.m. He was later taken to Bellevue Hospital and is stable.
On the same day, two men were stabbed during a fight at West 49th Street and later, a man was shot near St. James Park. Both incidents remain under investigation, with no arrests made as of yet.
