2 People Killed and 8 Injured In New York City Stabbings, Slashings, and Shootings On New Year’s Day

As 2025 began, two men were killed and eight injured in various slashings, stabbings, and shootings across New York City, officials say. A 50-year-old man was discovered with a neck wound at West 137th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem around 4:20 a.m. He was transported to Harlem Hospital and was sadly, declared dead, officials said, per the New York Post

Officials reported that a 39-year-old man, a person of interest, was detained for questioning. However, the motive remains unclear. 

An hour later, Mario Fowler, 46, was fatally shot, and a man, 23, was injured outside an apartment on East 170th Street, near Clay Avenue in the Bronx, reports say. 

In a separate brutal event, three men aged 26, 27, and 30 suffered head slashes on Grand Street near Roebling Street in Williamsburg around 4:50 a.m. They were transported to Woodhull Medical Center and are stable. The reason behind the attack is unknown. An hour following the Times Square ball drop, a 51-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach during a conflict at 38th Street and 8th close to 1 a.m. He was later taken to Bellevue Hospital and is stable.

On the same day, two men were stabbed during a fight at West 49th Street and later, a man was shot near St. James Park. Both incidents remain under investigation, with no arrests made as of yet.
