KABC reported that before the tragedy, the dogs had not posed any threat to the child. The 5-year-old who was killed had lived with four dogs all her life. So it was rather shocking when the police arrived and they saw that she had been brutally injured by the animals.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officers, they received an emergency call on Sunday. A family from a gated community in the 2500 block of Palomino Drive had experienced a horrific sight. Upon arrival, the police noticed that a 5-year-old, whose name remains unknown, had been attacked.
The dogs, a Rottweiler, 10, and a Rottweiler mix, 6 chose the backyard for the attack. Following the incident, the Los Angeles County Fire Department rushed her to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the 5-year-old was beyond saving as the injuries from the dogs killed her.
About an hour after the attack, the little girl was confirmed dead. Police say that they are neck-deep in finding out more details about the case. But in the meantime, there is no foul play suspected. Lt. Steven De Jong from Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Homicide called the death unfortunate.
Additionally, a family member who sustained injuries while possibly trying to intervene is being treated. The family member was later identified as the victim’s father. Reportedly, the young child had been injured on the head and torso before he found her. As for the dogs, all four including the attackers are with the local authorities. A helicopter footage showed the owners leading the animals to the police.
