If there is one thing Alexis Ohanian is thankful for, it is that he treated his thyroid issue early. The entrepreneur recently underwent thyroid surgery and had half of it removed to prevent cancerous growth. Ohanian shared the update on Thanksgiving and especially expressed gratitude for his family. He also admonished men, especially dads, to take their health appointments more seriously.
Alexis Ohanian Undergoes Thyroid Surgery
Alexis Ohanian recently shared an important update about his thyroid health on Thanksgiving. In an Instagram post, the Reddit cofounder revealed that half of his thyroid had been surgically removed. The post showed Ohanian looking goofy in a gown and cap on his hospital bed. He also had a scar on his neck. The investor revealed that he had been following the progress of “suspicious nodules” on his thyroid for almost half a decade.
“The nodules were getting bigger & the latest biopsy revealed they’d very likely turn cancerous. My mom had breast cancer around this age (41) and then ultimately died from brain cancer a decade or so later. I hate cancer,” Ohanian disclosed.
He added:
“I wasn’t gonna take any chances; the surgery was smooth and I’m extra grateful this Thanksgiving because I got the call this morning that my now-removed-half-of-thyroid was indeed full of some gnarly nodules that were very likely to become cancerous.”
Alexis Ohanian Grateful for Family
Alexis Ohanian also shared how he felt after his thyroid surgery. He revealed he was weak and not able to lift for two weeks, which was his worst experience throughout his surgery and recovery. Nevertheless, he retained hope and promised to be up in a week. He also shared his excitement about taking his girls to Disney World the week before his surgery.
“So life is wonderful,” the doting dad commented.
The internet entrepreneur also shared pictures from his family’s visit to Disney World. The second slide of his post showed him holding his and Serena William‘s one-year-old daughter, Adira River, on the merry-go-round. The third carousel showed their five-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia, wearing a helmet as she stared into the camera.
Alexis Ohanian Charges Men to Take Care of Their Health
Meanwhile, Ohanian wasn’t done with his Thanksgiving message. In the spirit of the holidays, the family-oriented man advised all men to take their doctor’s appointments seriously, especially if they were dads.
“To my fellow, men — make those doctor’s appointments — especially if y’all are dads. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone,” he concluded.
After Ohanian’s post, fans wished him a speedy recovery and thanked him for reminding men to make more conscious health decisions.
“Excellent last bit of advice. Men are less likely than women to have routine screening and need the encouragement. Glad you are doing well,” a fan commented.
Another fan thanked the former Reddit CEO for his openness and honesty and promised to pray for him. Thankfully, Alexis Ohanian was able to detect issues with his thyroid and prevent a cancer occurrence. Hopefully, he will be able to avoid cancer with this preventive surgery and get well soon.
