On January 10, the Pitt County Sheriff confirmed that 55-year-old David Lever’s home was filled with arms and ammunition upon investigation. Sadly, on that fateful day, the man headed for Peace Ridge Court where he targeted three elderly people. After raining bullets in the area, a couple, Anthony, 80, and Paula Gribble, 76, were killed.
Investigation showed that the suspect shared contact with the murdered couple. Per WITN, the shooter served as a realtor to the duo when they bought their home in 2014. His third victim, Enrique Reyes had set about his business on the day he was killed. Sources say the 64-year-old visited a Food Lion around 1 pm before leaving for his abode in Forest Acres Drive.
The three murders occurred in different places and times. Authorities first received a call for help around 2:17 pm, stating that the Gribbles had died. Meanwhile, around 2:50 pm, another call rang in, complaining of a home invasion and gunshots. Altogether, the police received calls from four different crime scenes.
Paula Dance of the Pitt County Sheriff’s Department explained that they were able to arrest the shooter due to one man’s effort. Dance refused to share a name but maintained that a son of the deceased Gribbles held Lever at gunpoint.
Following his arrest, the shooter was charged with three open counts of murder. On January 13, he made his first court appearance and was slapped with the charges. David Lever is set to appear in court on January 29.
