A animal lover was murder on Christmas Eve with a pipe while trying to save a dog from abuse, witnesses reported. 60-year-old Robert “Bobby” Cavanaugh from Madison Heights, Michigan, was biking around the neighborhood when he saw a neighbor hitting a dog, locals told Fox 2. Cavanaugh, who loved animals and had pets, attempted to assis; however, he was attacked by the neighbor with a weapon, and sadly, suffered from fatal injuries, Jane Thompson, his sister said, per the New York Post.
“Bobby was beaten to death with a pipe by a man [who] has been released from jail from repeated prison sentences,”
his sister said in a GoFundMe page.
She continued,
“Our family wants to honor him and give him a proper burial as the hero he was trying to save an animal and is now gone from a brutal attack.”
Thompson called her brother a kind-hearted man who tried to save the abused dog despite his disabilities and dependence on government aid. David Koehler, the Madison Heights Police Lt., reported Cavanaugh was found unresponsive and bleeding around 7:40 p.m., dying from blunt force trauma. A suspect, unnamed, was apprehended at the scene.
Rebecca Spencer, a neighbor, reportedly informed reporters that the deadly incident occurred after Cavanaugh approached the man, who said he was disciplining his dog.
