The most recent batch of migrants fleeing France experienced chaos as their boat capsized in the English Channel. Unfortunately, this incident led to the death of a baby. Authorities claimed that the tragedies recorded during such trips are getting out of hand. Some migrants tried to make their way out of the country through the coast of Wissant. However, Independent News says that they had difficulty during their trip to the Pas-de-Calais region. Once rescuers caught wind of this, they went all out to locate the boat.

Heartbreaking Migrant Boat Rescue by French Authorities In The English Channel

The French authorities sent rescue teams with a helicopter and two pairs of ships. Upon arriving in the evening, the rescuers were able to salvage the situation. However, they discovered that out of 65 passengers, a handful were immersed in the water. Meanwhile, the migrant boat was still heavily loaded with people. Thus an overloaded boat was the most reasonable excuse why the migrants’ boat capsized in the middle of the sea.

About 64 people were rescued and taken back to the port located at Boulogne-sur-Mer. Officials noted that a baby had lost its life during the accident. Enver Solomon of the Refugee Council maintained that the death toll was on the rise. According to the official, the numbers recorded topped the sum of deaths for the last three years.

On the other hand, Imogen Hardman, a member of the Refugee charity Care4Calais, blamed the government. Hardman pointed at the loss of lives, claiming that the UK government is concerned with border security. In his opinion, the value of lives should overrule topics of border safety.

Shortly before this incident, a total of four migrants suffered death after their boat capsized in the English Channel. Among the deceased was a 2-year-old child who was crushed to death. Also in September, twelve people died including six kids and six adults.
