Bath & Body Works Pulls ‘Cozy’ “Klandles” After Realizing KKK Hood-Like Labels Aren’t the Best Look

Bath & Body Works has pulled a line of candles after backlash over labels resembling KKK hoods.

The controversy erupted when social media users pointed out that the candle packaging, which aimed for cozy vibes, instead ignited outrage.

The offending candles featured white labels with pointed tops, prompting swift reactions from customers on platforms like Twitter. One user quipped, “Nothing says ‘cozy night in’ quite like a KKK candle, right? What were they thinking?”

In response, Bath & Body Works issued an apology, stating, “We sincerely apologize for the design of our recent candle labels. It was never our intention to offend anyone, and we take this feedback seriously.”

The company confirmed that the candles would be removed from shelves and pledged to ensure future designs align with their commitment to inclusivity.

Marketing expert Dr. Jane Smith told CNN, “It’s a reminder that even the most innocent intentions can lead to misinterpretations. Brands need to be more aware of the cultural implications of their designs.”

As Bath & Body Works navigates this PR challenge, many customers are left wondering how a simple candle could spark such controversy. As one disappointed shopper stated, “I just wanted a candle for my living room, not a reminder of hate.”

At this point, Bath & Body works should know better. In 2019, they got in trouble for selling Black pumpkins that resembled blackface. Yet in 2024, they are still clueless. 🤷🏾‍♀️
