A beloved 82-year-old former Louisiana Mayor and his daughter were gunned down and the suspect police have in custody is 10 years old.
On Sunday, Sept. 1, Joe Cornelius and his 31-year-old daughter Keisha Miles were found dead inside their Minden residence, the Minden Press-Herald reports.
Police reportedly arrested a 10-year-old child who admitted to committing the crimes. The unnamed boy spoke to authorities with his grandmother who is his legal guardian.
“We have the suspect in custody now,” Minden Police Chief Jared McIver said according to the Minden Press-Herald.
“We’ve got a confession. But in these cases when you’re in, it’s very delicate. When you’re dealing with a child of this age, you know, in their stage, we’re looking at … was there motive, what was the motive?” he told the outlet.

“It’s one of those things that we’ve still got a lot of unanswered questions,” McIver continued.
He says the boy had a “mindset to commit a crime like this, but didn’t elaborate on what they meant.
Cornelius was a respected politician and active member of his community.
“Joe Cornelius’s years of service to Minden were marked by his commitment and dedication to the betterment of our community,” Minden mayor Nick Cox said in a statement.
