Alex, a Black mother, had to take a DNA test to address suspicions about her relationship to her fair-skinned daughter, Pudge Pudge, who was born via IVF.

Although Alex and her husband, Rob—a white man—anticipated that their child might inherit diverse physical traits, they were still surprised by how fair Pudge Pudge turned out.

This difference in appearance attracted criticism from strangers and online trolls who doubted that Alex was her biological mother, Daily Mail reports.

Alex describes frequent encounters where her relationship with her daughter is questioned, sometimes to the point of strangers assuming she is Pudge Pudge’s nanny. One incident at a mall involved a stranger threatening to call security, insisting that “things didn’t look right.”

Alex said that even black people give her flak.

“I’ve seen people that appear to be black online that say I shouldn’t have that white man’s child, all kinds of things,” she said.

Despite the racial challenges they face, Alex and Rob found peace of mind after confirming their biological connection with a DNA test. Alex shared, “We did the DNA test…to rule that out” and ease any lingering doubts due to Pudge Pudge’s fair skin.
