Brazilian authorities have reported that a woman has confessed to the brutal killing of 16-year-old Emelly Beatriz Azevedo Sena, who was nine months pregnant. The suspect allegedly murdered the teenager and surgically removed her unborn baby with the intent to raise the child as her own.

On March 13, Emelly’s body was discovered in a shallow grave in the backyard of a home in the Jardim Florianópolis neighborhood of Cuiabá. She had been reported missing just a day earlier. Officials confirmed that the suspect had lured the deceased to the location under the pretense of donating clothes.

Following the crime, the suspect and her husband arrived at Santa Helena Maternity Hospital, claiming the baby had been born at home. However, medical staff quickly grew suspicious when they found no signs of recent childbirth.

Further examinations revealed she had not given birth, nor was she producing breast milk. These inconsistencies prompted hospital staff to alert the police. The hospital’s assertion ultimately led to the woman’s confession, per Civil Police of Mato Grosso.

Authorities revealed that Emelly Sena’s body exhibited severe signs of violence. She had been strangled, with plastic bags covering her head and internet cables tied around her neck, hands, and legs.

The suspect now faces charges of triple-qualified homicide, corpse concealment, and falsely registering another’s child as her own. Although the suspect’s brother, husband, and a friend were present when police arrived, they were questioned and released.

Investigators are still working to determine whether they played a role in Emelly’s death. Emelly’s mother, Ana Paula Meridiane, expressed her devastation, saying, “I didn’t just lose a daughter; I lost a friend and companion.”
