Lucresia Stone-Rojas, 46, was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison after she was found with heroin-filled bibles addressed to inmates. She was initially arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a gun, amid a stolen vehicle case.

NY Post reports that Stone-Rojas was caught by the authorities on Nov. 12, 2023, after a license plate reader identified a stolen Porsche in El Cajon. According to the Justice Department, a loaded 9mm Walther handgun and ammo were also found on her during a traffic stop.

She managed to escape the stolen vehicle charge. However, she was federally charged with unlawful gun possession due to her previous felony convictions. Not too long, Stone-Rojas landed in police custody again.

On Dec. 27, 2023, federal investigators found two Bibles containing 23 grams of heroin to be sent to two inmates in California state prisons. The substances were hidden in the spine of the Bibles. There were other packages and envelopes equally addressed to inmates in a California state prison.

The acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Haden addressed the issue, pointing out that the unlawful act will not be tolerated. He highlighted how smuggling drugs endangers both the correctional staff and the inmates.

Haden further stated that “hopefully,” Lucresia Stone-Rojas’ case will serve as a warning to anyone looking to abuse the tools of faith and rehabilitation to perpetuate addiction and despair.

Some people have a knack or love for breaking the law and Lucresia Stone-Rojas is an example. Hopefully, she reads the Bible and does not use it as a tool to deliver drugs.
