Two Detroit residents, Brittany Walker, 35, and Samuel Payton, 62, are facing serious charges after allegedly attacking a wheelchair-bound man. The duo attempted to force-feed him bleach, leaving him with significant head trauma. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the assault occurred on January 29 inside a Detroit apartment following an argument.
Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office officials allege that Walker and Payton tried to pour bleach down the 44-year-old victim’s throat. After the attack, the man was hospitalized with a cranial bleed and an orbital wall fracture, FOX 2 reported.
Details regarding the relationship between the suspects and the victim remain unclear. Attempts by PEOPLE to contact the Prosecutor’s Office, as well as attorneys for the accused, were unsuccessful as of Sunday, April 27.
Court records reviewed by PEOPLE reveal that both Brittany Walker and Samuel Payton were arrested in February and charged with multiple felonies. Their bonds were each set at $1 million. Payton faces charges of torture and assault with intent to do great bodily harm, less than murder.
Walker faces the same two charges, in addition to three more counts, including assault with a dangerous weapon, first-degree vulnerable adult abuse, and assault and battery. Both defendants have entered not guilty pleas, according to court documents. A court hearing for both is scheduled for May 28.
