A Bronx woman was arrested on Tuesday morning after a robbery and attack that took place in Mt. Eden on September 24, according to the NYPD, per Pix 11 News.
Monique Fort, 49, was charged with robbery, grand larceny, and assault. Police say that Fort stole money from a 7-year-old boy while he was out shopping for fruit at a grocery store with his mom. The incident happened on Jerome Avenue. When the boy’s mother tried to stop her, Fort reportedly punched her twice in the chest and then ran away toward East 170th Street.
Emergency Medical Services treated the mother at the scene. She told PIX11 that she was scared and tried to protect her two children, who both have special needs. She said the incident has traumatized her son and left her feeling shaken. The owner of the market also mentioned seeing the woman before, as she often walks around the neighborhood asking people for money.
