A California school board dismissed its superintendent, Stephanie Anello, after a mid-level supervisor and Anello’s friend reportedly played a prank by placing a subordinate’s desk on the roof, per NBC News.

Anello’s position was in jeopardy since April, when it was reported that Kenneth Turnage II, director of facilities, and Anello’s friend, moved subordinate Jim Kesser’s desk onto a structure in the maintenance yard.

President Antonio Hernandez announced the termination, which reportedly promoted applause. Hernandez said,

“The board took action in closed session to terminate the superintendent’s employment agreement effectively immediately… The vote was as follows, 5-0.”

Four board members voted in person, while one member joined the meeting remotely after testing positive for COVID-19.
