58-year-old Campbell Scott was last seen in Nairobi, Kenya, on February 16. Days later, his body was reportedly discovered by herders, hidden in a sack filled with pineapples.
Scott, a senior director at data analytics firm FICO, was captured on CCTV in a Scotland jersey before vanishing. Investigators reviewed footage of him leaving the JW Marriott Hotel with a man dressed in a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
According to Capital News, the pair entered a vehicle and drove off. Authorities later found a body in Makongo Forest, about 60 miles from Nairobi, on February 22. Reports suggest he endured severe torture before being strangled.
Local administrator Thomas Maitha told The Standard Newspaper that the condition of Campbell Scott’s body indicated physical assault. “His hands were tied behind his back, and he was packed into a sack with ripe pineapples,” he stated. FICO confirmed his passing:
“Nairobi police have identified the body of Campbell Scott, a FICO employee. We will not disclose further details as the authorities are handling the investigation.”
Police have questioned six individuals from the JW Marriott Hotel, where Scott was staying. Two suspects—a taxi driver and a waiter—have been arrested, according to Capital News. The UK High Commission in Nairobi is assisting local authorities, and the UK’s Foreign Office is supporting Scott’s family.
FICO paid tribute:
“We are deeply saddened by this loss. Campbell was instrumental in expanding our global partnerships. His humor and kindness will be greatly missed.”
Campbell Scott had traveled to Kenya for a conference. When he failed to respond to calls, his colleague reported him missing. Less than a week later, his body was found.
