Diddy‘s defense team is trying to reshape the narratives about him in court. On Friday, May 16, they played an audio recording of Cassie threatening a man who claimed he saw her “freak off” video. The R&B singer vowed to kill the man if he didn’t show her the video. Jurors heard the recording as Diddy’s legal team attempted to portray Cassie as volatile and challenge her credibility.
Cassie Threatens to Kill Man Who Saw “Freak Off” Video

On Friday, May 16, jurors heard an audio recording of Cassie threatening a man she called Sugit. The recording was only made public recently. Cassie confronted Sugit, warning him after he told her he had seen a video of her in a “freak off.” She told the man she didn’t want anyone to see the clip. The incident in question happened in March 2014 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Diddy’s defense team played the video while cross-examining Cassie during her testimony against the music mogul.
In the recording, Cassie threatened to kill the man, saying, “I will cut you up and put you in the dirt.” She said she had never killed anyone, but she didn’t mind making Sugit an exception for messing with her life. She threatened to send someone after him if he didn’t immediately show her the video. Cassie also told the man she didn’t want anyone else to see the “freak off” video. When asked about it during cross-examination, Cassie confirmed she confronted Sugit after he claimed to have seen her in a “freak off” video.
Diddy’s Defense Team Says Trial Direction is Misguided
Sean “Diddy” Combs has been charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The government alleges that he used his power and position to compel victims to engage in drug-fueled sexual performances. These sexual activities with male sex workers have been dubbed “freak offs.” However, Diddy has denied all of them and pleaded not guilty. He faces at least 15 years and up to life in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors also allege that the music executive got away with abusing women and silencing his victims through violence and blackmail. They claim his employees and a vast network of associates helped him cover up his alleged atrocities. These allegations include kidnapping, arson, and physical beatings, according to Court TV. Meanwhile, Cassie’s lawsuit and testimony lie at the center of the federal sex trafficking case against Diddy. She filed a lawsuit against the mogul in 2023, but it was settled within hours of being filed.
However, it triggered a chain of lawsuits from several others and a federal case against Diddy. Meanwhile, his lawyer, Teny Geragos, asserted in court that the prosecution had filed the wrong case. She claimed they had turned sex, however freaky, between two consenting adults into a sex trafficking case. She said the trial would have been more on track if it were about domestic violence, and that his accusers were motivated by money. Geragos cited Cassie’s example, where she demanded $30 million when she sued him.
Meanwhile, as has been typical with updates about Diddy’s trial, netizens are divided over Cassie’s audio recording. Some opine that Cassie freaked out while considering the possibility that her freak-off video might be leaked. However, others believe she was just as guilty as her ex.
