22-year-old Kimberley Cookson has admitted to causing the death of 14-month-old Noah Sibanda at a nursery in Dudley, West Midlands. The child tragically died following an incident at Fairytales Day Nursery in December 2022.

Cookson, a nursery practitioner, pleaded guilty to gross negligence manslaughter during a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court. The nursery practitioner has been released on unconditional bail.

She will be sentenced after the conclusion of the upcoming trial involving others connected to the case.

Deborah Latewood, 54, the nursery’s director and owner, has denied breaching health and safety laws concerning the event. Her company, Fairytales Nursery Limited, also denies charges of corporate manslaughter and failing to comply with workplace safety duties.

According to The Sun, Judge Michael Chambers KC confirmed that Latewood and the company will face trial, expected in 2026, though no date has been set. Noah’s mother, Masi Sibanda, paid a heartfelt tribute to her son.

The bereaved mother described late Noah as a “lovable,” “handsome,” and “easy-going” boy who always wore a smile. She shared how calm and relaxed he was, often chilling with his arm behind his head,” making parenting a smooth experience for her. Hopefully, justice is served.
