Claudia Jordan Reflects On College Hill Journey and Personal Growth, Says ‘I Wish I Can Go Back In A Time Machine and Go To An HBCU’

College Hill: Celebrity Edition S3/ BET+

Season 3 of College Hill: Celebrity Edition was a roller coaster. From the short-lived drama, to the sentimental and turn up moments, this season is one for the books. The cast, Claudia Jordan, Saucy Santana, Nick ‘Swaggy P’ Young, Karlous Miller, Tamar Braxton, and Angela ‘Blac Chyna’ White, took Xavier University by storm. The cast attended the Louisiana HBCU not just to earn their certificate. However, they were also able to gain valuable experiences, engage in self-discovery while also learning about African American history. The college welcomed the cast with open arms and each cast member was challenged academically and mentally.

Claudia Jordan Shares Insights On Personal Growth While Filming

Onsite! caught up with Claudia Jordan where she spoke about her growth and self-discovery amid her experience filming the show. When asked about challenges she’s faced that she has successfully overcome while attending Xavier University, Jordan talked about patience.

“When you’re put in a house with five other people that you don’t really know like that, you have to have some kind of patience,”

said the model/host.

“You have to respect other people’s ticks, habits, [and] their way of doing things.”

Despite Jordan mentioning that she was the oldest cast member this season, she admitted to constantly working on being patient. The model added that selflessness was also something she was able to conquer while filming with her cast mates.

“There was a time where we all got our midterm grade and people were freaking out and upset, then the competition was on,”

said Jordan.

“I realized that ‘I can help other people with their work if they need my assistance and that doesn’t take away from my success’. I think that’s a lesson I would like people to know.”

“[Someone] helping the next [person] does not take away from your success. There’s enough out there for all of us…. There’s room on the top for a lot of us, and I want to see us get back to a point where we lift each other up.”

Jordan Compares Her Early College Experience To Her Most Recent Experience

In comparison to her initial college experience in the 1990s at Baldwin Wallace University, Jordan revealed that the experience was

“night and day.”

During her earlier college experience in Cleveland, Ohio there weren’t many black students who attended the university. Throughout those years, Jordan experienced racism due to her active activism on campus against injustices across the nation. One instance she spoke out against in particular was the nationwide outcry for Rodney King, who was brutally attacked by Los Angeles police in 1991. Reflecting on this allowed her to recognize the full circle moment and how significant this experience was for her. To be able attend an HBCU, not only to improve yourself but to also be able to learn about black history unapologetically is what made the experience worthwhile.

“Going to experience what an HBCU felt like [was] night and day. Just the [support] of your professors, people that understand, I don’t have to explain everything to the guidance counselor, they already know what it is,”

said the model.

“I wish I can go back in a time machine and go to an HBCU, for that experience alone,”

she added.
