A Colorado funeral home owner, 34-year-old , Miles Harford was sentenced to 18 months behind bars for leaving a woman’s corpse in a hearse for over a year and improperly storing the ashes of at least 30 people. He pleaded guilty to abusing a corpse and theft, with other charges dropped.
The New York Post reports that he received the maximum sentence allowed by Colorado law for his charges.
“Nothing will ever undo the terrible pain that Miles Harford caused so many families, but it is our hope that this sentence will provide the family and friends of the deceased with some measure of justice… Harford systematically and shockingly violated his professional and moral obligations, and, for that, he is now being held accountable,” John Walsh, the Denver District Attorney said on Monday.
Harford was apprehended last year after officials discovered the body of 63-year-old #ChristinaRosales, who died from Alzheimer’s, in his hearse, covered with blankets. Her remains had been there for about 18 months. He deceived her relatives by giving them the ashes of another person instead. Officials also discovered other remains hidden in boxes at his rental property. Prosecutors noted that he treated the bodies in a disrespectful manner.
