Last week, Logan County witnessed what would have been the kidnap of an 8-year-old by Thomas Gallegos. Fortunately, this kidnapper wasn’t successful due to the sole attempt of the victim. Thomas Gallegos was found and arrested four days after fleeing the home of his victim. The 56-year-old planned a break-in into a home in Walnut Street, Sterling, on October 15. The unsavory incident took place in the middle of the night at around 2:30 am.

Neighborhood Kidnapper Thomas Gallegos Stopped in His Tracks by Brave 8-Year-Old

According to the Sterling Police Department, Gallegos intruded on a family’s home targeting their 8-year-old daughter. However, he was in for the shock of his life. Although the neighborhood kidnapper blindfolded the victim, she fought back. That was when he decided to lock it in by hitting her head and choking her. Apart from the assault, the intruder stole the child’s phone. Once the child was free, she ran to her mom’s room, who immediately called 911.

Per KUSA, the police confirmed that the child’s injuries were minor including cuts and bruises. Fortunately, her bravery saved her from being a victim. Meanwhile, the cops also played their part by following up closely with the case. Upon investigating, the authorities recovered the victim’s stolen device around Interstate 76, west of Sterling. The suspect had left it there while escaping in a dark hoodie and pants.

Through extensive research involving monitoring surveillance videos, Gallegos was identified. Additionally, physical evidence also led the authorities to him. During the kidnap, he donned a clown mask and a pair of gloves which were left behind. Following his identification, what followed was an arrest and as expected charges. This includes burglary, assault, and kidnapping. At the same time, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation will be conducting DNA testing on the obtained objects.
