A Compton family is suing Harrison-Ross Mortuary after a devastating mix-up during funeral preparations led to a stranger being dressed in their loved one’s burial clothes.

Amentha Hunt had entrusted the funeral home with arrangements for her 80-year-old uncle. But when she returned to view the body, she was shocked to find a different man in her uncle’s suit.

“I just stared,” Hunt told ABC7 News. “It wasn’t him. He wouldn’t have changed that much in color or appearance.”

Despite her immediate concerns, Hunt says staff initially dismissed her. Only after she showed a photo did they acknowledge the mistake, asking for more time. The family waited three hours before the correct body was presented.

To this day, Hunt doesn’t know whose remains were mistakenly dressed in her uncle’s clothes. The family has filed a lawsuit, citing emotional distress and negligence.

“For a mortuary to deny the obvious and delay resolution—it’s unacceptable,” said family attorney Elvis Tran.

In response, Harrison-Ross Mortuary has denied wrongdoing and plans to issue a cease-and-desist letter to Hunt, according to WCAX.

“It still haunts me,” Hunt said. “I can’t unsee the wrong man in that suit. It was supposed to be my uncle.”
