A Connecticut man is accused of punching a pregnant woman while attempting to steal her car, reports the NY Post. The East Haven Police shared details on Wednesday after they received a report about a carjacking at a Dunkin’ drive-thru.

The incident happened on Tuesday, October 1, when 28-year-old William Rodriguez parked right in front of the woman’s car. He reportedly got out of his car, climbed into the passenger side of her vehicle, and demanded her keys. When she refused, he began punching her. The victim is reportedly four months pregnant. She managed to escape and ran into the restaurant for help.

An employee saw the attack and told two coworkers, who rushed outside and held Rodriguez down as he tried to drive away in the woman’s car. When the police arrived, Rodriguez was still fighting and even bit a medic’s hand after being arrested.

The car that Rodriguez had during the attack, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, was reported stolen earlier. He is facing several charges, including Breach of Peace, 2nd Degree Assault on Emergency Medical Personnel, 3rd Degree Robbery, 2nd Degree Reckless Endangerment, Assault on a Pregnant Person, 3rd Degree Assault, Interfering with an Officer, and two counts of Motor Vehicle Theft.

Rodriguez is being held on a $250,000 bond for these charges, plus he has other outstanding arrest warrants totaling $475,000, with two additional warrants from CSP Troop A and Troop I.
