An Oakland County couple received a life-changing surprise lottery win in Michigan while celebrating their wedding anniversary. They won $2 million from the Michigan Lottery’s Diamonds & Gold instant game.
The 44-year-old, who has chosen to remain unnamed, purchased the winning scratch-off ticket at the Opdyke Featherstone Mobil gas station in Auburn Hills. She and her husband are regular lottery players and decided to pick up a few tickets to mark their special day.
According to a Michigan Lottery press release, the couple scratched the ticket together. Her husband spotted the massive prize first but thought it might be a mistake. They headed back to the store to scan it, only to be told they needed to contact the Lottery office. A friend then confirmed the win using the Lottery’s mobile app.
“I couldn’t stop shaking,” the winner recalled. “Seeing $2 million pop up on the screen was unbelievable, definitely the best anniversary gift ever.”
The woman chose a lump-sum payout, receiving around $1.3 million. CBS News reports that she plans to buy a home, invest, and save for her children’s college education.
Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli praised the win, noting its positive impact on the family’s future. Diamonds & Gold was launched in March 2024 and has awarded over $54 million to date. One $2 million top prize remains.
