On Monday morning, shoppers at an Aldi supermarket in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood were astounded when a wild coyote was extracted from the refrigerated section.
Captured on video, officers used broomsticks to prod around the shelves before grabbing and pulling the coyote out by its tail, TMZ reports.
The animal, initially escaping back into the cold products, was later apprehended by animal control at around 10 a.m.
The coyote appeared uninjured and was taken to Chicago Animal Control and Care, awaiting transfer to Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation for health assessment and potential release back into the wild.
Witnesses reported seeing the coyote wandering in the parking lot before it entered the store, likely trying to find a hiding place. Stan Gehrt with the Cook County Coyote Project explained, “It picked an odd location. They do this sometimes. They make a mistake. They’re trying to avoid us. They’re trying to hide from us.”
#Clique, it’s cold outside. Can’t blame him!
