A 47-year-old woman recovering from a stroke at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta was almost raped after an alleged crackhead got into her room and tried to sexually assault her.
Back in September, Shamon Pearce was caught with his pants down, butt-naked, climbing on top of a woman who was resting in the hospital, WSBTV reports. Pearce reportedly told police he was “high and smoking drugs” and “trying something new” after the rape attempt.
Pearce has been hit with a barrage of charges including aggravated assault, battery and misdemeanor sexual battery. He is being held at the Fulton County Jail.
Although locals know that Grady is usually locked down like Fort Knox, somehow Pearce was able to get past security and hop on an elevator and smoked a crack pip while enroute to a random room. Nurses saw him and called authorities, but he slipped into the unsuspecting patient’s room. He stripped down, climbed on top of the woman and told her not to move and to be quiet. That’s when the woman started tussling with Pearce and demanded that he get off her.
“She began moving and telling him to get off her and they both fell off the bed. She tried to scream for someone to help,” police report.
When nurses heard the commotion that entered the room and tried to wrestle Pearce to the ground.
“She (nurse) captured images from her phone while calling for other nurses to respond,” according to an APD incident report. “The (nurses) attempted to lock Mr. Pearce inside the room to prevent him from escaping, however, he was too strong and overpowered them. Mr. Pearce then exited the room and ran down the hall naked. The nurses ran after him until they lost him going down the stairs.”
He ended up hiding out for over an hour in the basement of the hospital in a trash can. He found a hospital gown and fled through an exit. He was later found hiding under a bridge.
Grady has now decided to increase security and inpatient units will now be locked down and require badge access only and approval from the nurse’s station.
