Out of sight is not out of mind for DaBaby who decided to honor his late brother with a mental health organization. The rapper seems to have learned from experience what unchecked mental health can do. About four years after losing his brother, DaBaby looks out for members of the minority community.

DaBaby Loses Brother To Gun Shot

Back in 2020, authorities confirmed that DaBaby’s older brother Glenn Johnson died from a gunshot wound. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to a call on November 3. The complainant reported an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, they realized that it was Johnson who had sustained the injury.

So they rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he didn’t make it. At the time, 28-year-old DaBaby was distraught. He took his grief online, sharing how much he missed Johnson. Via Instagram stories, the North Carolina native said he would give up his world to see his brother.

DaBaby Shares Mental Health Organization News

While he may never see his brother again, the 32-year-old is staying true to his word. DaBaby is impacting those in his community as he remembers his deceased brother. The rapper touted his new mental health initiative called DaBaby Cares. Via a statement, he wrote:

”In honor of my brother’s untimely passing, I have become devoted to utilizing my platform and resources to provide the tools needed to combat mental health issues.”

This is no ordinary project that would be left in the hands of others to run. According to his statement, the rapper would be hands-on. Through this mental health organization, DaBaby intends to save more lives. Following the tragedy in his family, the North Carolina native hopes to prevent more deaths. To do so, he believes awareness and resources would do the trick.

Together, these two would work in mitigating the tragedies associated with mental health. By offering counsel and encouraging victims they see the need for self-love and not self-harm. Additionally DaBaby Cares would connect young people on a global scale. The project will promote unity between mental health leaders from around the world and families.

A Little About DaBaby’s Family Life

DaBaby aka Jonathan Lyndale Kirk was born in Cleveland but as a small child, his family moved to North Carolina. This was where he lived up until his young adult years. Once he graduated from Vance High School in 2010, he joined the University of North Carolina. However, midway, the rapper ditched school. In an interview, he confessed that attending college was to make his parents happy.

Growing up he has a perfectly normal family consisting of three sons altogether. They all listened to the seasoned ones in the game like 50 Cent. Amid DaBaby’s fame and fortune, the rapper did not allow that to affect his family relationship. On top of that he is notoriously private about them. Although he had two brothers, very little is known about them online. It was not until the death of Johnson, that many knew that he was DaBaby’s brother.

Final Note

Hopefully, his DaBaby Cares mental health organization can impact as many lives as possible. As this is only what truly matters to the rapper— saving people like his brother.
