A former Dallas police sergeant has been indicted on federal gun charges for allegedly selling stolen department-issued firearms, USA Today. Thomas Michael Fry, 52, was officially charged last Wednesday with three counts of possession and sale of a stolen firearm.
“Police officers have a sacred duty to uphold the rule of law. Instead, this sergeant betrayed his department – and his community – by allegedly pawning stolen firearms,”
said Chad Meacham, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.
“The U.S. Attorney’s Office will not hesitate to pursue charges against law enforcement officers who fail to live up to their oaths.”
The Dallas Police Department began investigating Fry in October 2022. Investigators discovered that the sergeant had stolen at least three 9mm Sig Sauer pistols from a substation between August 2021 and July 2022 while assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division. He then pawned the stolen firearms at a pawnshop in Oklahoma, according to federal authorities.
Fry was first arrested in April 2024 after he turned himself into the Mesquite Police Department on three counts of firearm theft, a state jail felony. In July 2024, he was arrested again by the Royse City Police Department on a separate felony theft charge. During the internal affairs investigation, he was placed on administrative leave.
While under investigation, Fry resigned in August, as confirmed by a police spokesperson to FOX 4. If found guilty, Fry could face up to 30 years in federal prison.
