Comedian Damon Wayans Sr. shared a surprising personal revelation during a recent appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast: he once dated his nephew’s ex-girlfriend.

According to People, in the April 2 episode, hosted by Shannon Sharpe, Wayans disclosed that the relationship began years after his nephew had dated the woman. Sharpe, visibly stunned, pressed Wayans for clarification.

“This can’t be true—you dated the same woman that your nephew was with?” Sharpe asked.

Wayans explained that his nephew had dated the woman in 2001, and that their relationship had not been serious.

“I got divorced and I was by myself for two years,” Wayans said. “And then I saw her, I was just like, ‘Oh my God, I’m in love.’ And then I found out my nephew had dated her.”

Wayans said he asked his nephew for permission before pursuing the relationship. Despite the approval, he admitted that family gatherings became uncomfortable.

“Family gatherings is awkward,” he said.

Sharpe responded to the story by calling the situation “off limits,” though Wayans downplayed the controversy.

“No, but it wasn’t like they were in love,” he said. “You know how small the pool is out here in Cali? The dating pool?”

The interview concluded with Sharpe and Wayans discussing the comedian’s past work, including his role and earnings from the sitcom My Wife and Kids.
