A Queens woman, Diana Bekatoros, 51, allegedly fatally stabbed her 84-year-old mother, Josephine, on Thanksgiving Eve on Long Island. After she was apprehended, she shockingly claimed she
“never had a mother,”
officials reported, according to the New York Post.
Following her arrest, Diana Bekatoros, with shackled hands, told a photographer from Newsday,
“I never had a mother,”
adding,
“Are you my mother?”
She later claimed not to understand the questions when she was asked about the incident.
After having dinner, Dennis Bekatoros went to watch TV and discovered his wife, Josephine, hurt on the floor. He called 911 for assistance, but sadly, she did not survive, reports News 12.
Diana was apprehended at her Long Island City home and charged with second-degree murder, and held without bail during her arraignment. The judge noted her odd smiling during the serious hearing, which raised concerns about her mental state, and ordered a psychological evaluation.
The elderly couple lived in one of seven homes on a quiet roundabout, near a cemetery. Each home has large yards, three-bay garages, and pools. A neighbor called the violence shocking.
“To be honest, I’m just really sad.. I knew [Josephine] and she was a very good lady,”
the unidentified neighbor informed The Post. She added,
“I’ve met her daughter once or twice… She seemed to be a nice person but we never know what goes on.”
