A woman from North Carolina, 29-year-old Alexandra Coffey, was apprehended after a 16-month-old girl sadly passed away at a daycare. She faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter related to the child’s death. Lenoir officials responded to the Creative Beginnings daycare around 3 p.m. on Monday, May 19, after receiving a report about an infant experiencing cardiac arrest, according to PEOPLE.
Officials and first responders arrived and discovered the baby unresponsive. Though they tried to save her, she was later pronounced dead at Caldwell UNC Healthcare. Two days later, on May 21, authorities apprehended Coffey, a daycare worker, for her role in the child’s death. She was arrested; however, later released on a $500,000 bond.
The child’s mother informed WBTV that it was her daughter’s first day at daycare when she received a call saying her child didn’t wake up from nap time. On the day of Coffey’s arrest, officials suspended the daycare’s license. A hearing is set for next week.
