A daycare worker in Kentucky has been arrested after she reportedly confessed to pulling a toddler’s hair and “removing a substantial amount of hair from the child’s head,” according to local authorities as reported by PEOPLE.
Kesha Cochran, 24, was taken into custody following the incident at a daycare in Leitchfield, Ky., on Tuesday, March 11, as stated by the Leitchfield Police Department. Police launched an investigation after receiving a report concerning an injured 1-year-old at the daycare, ultimately concluding that the injury appeared to be of a “suspicious nature,” according to the statement.
Surveillance video from the daycare revealed that Cochran was supervising a group of young children when she approached the unnamed 1-year-old and, without any apparent reason, pulled the child’s hair. The victim “began screaming uncontrollably,” police said. The investigation found that the child had a bald patch measuring more than 6 centimeters on their scalp.
The video footage indicated that after pulling out the child’s hair, Cochran seemingly threw a “handful of hair” into the trash. In her interview, Cochran confessed to “intentionally” causing harm to the child. According to court records, she has been charged with first-degree criminal abuse. The investigation is still ongoing.
