Denzel Washington revealed in an interview that he experienced a serious accident that has had an adverse effect on his performance at work.
“I bit my tongue almost half-off a few months ago,”
he shared during his appearance on the New York Times’
“The Interview”
podcast.
“It’s affecting my speech. It forces me to slow down. I have to use it,”
he explained.
The 70-year-old actor didn’t provide further details about the injury itself, however, he admitted that it has impacted his upcoming role in the Broadway revival of
“Othello.”
He added,
“I have a line: ‘Whither will you that I go to answer this your charge?’ It’s hard because my tongue is swollen. It has affected everything.”
The
“Fences”
actor, who was baptized and became a licensed minister in December, later connected the incident to his faith. He shared that it highlighted the importance of
“praying every day.”
“I’m like, ‘OK, Lord, I’m here, I think this is what you wanted me to do.’ Now I’m not sure why [I bit my tongue], but one can say coincidence and serendipity and all those things,”
he added.
