Diddy’s legal team is working overtime to get out and dismiss a federal charge against him. They accused the prosecution of being racially biased in their legal actions against him and sought redress. Diddy’s star-studded legal team also claimed their client faced unfair treatment as he was the only offender handled this way despite the numerous other people who allegedly committed similar crimes.

Diddy’s Team Fighting Federal Charge

The rapper’s attorneys seek to dismiss one of the three federal charges against him. They claim the prosecutors made the charges on the basis of a racially charged prosecution. The attorneys filed a new motion on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum the same day.

In it, they sought to exclude the federal charge that claims Diddy broke the Mann Act. According to Variety, the memo stated the:

“case is unprecedented in many ways, but perhaps most notably, and most disturbingly, no white person has ever been the target of a remotely similar prosecution.”

It added that:

“There has “never been a similar RICO prosecution” and that “no other person, and certainly no white person has ever previously been prosecuted under the White-Slave Traffic Act for hiring male escorts from another State.”

It alleged that the music mogul was:

“singled out because he is a powerful black man, and he is being prosecuted for conduct that regularly goes unpunished.”

Notably, the Mann Act prohibits trafficking across states for prostitution services.

Diddy’s Lawyers Deny Wrongdoing

Diddy’s lawyers are seeking to expunge the federal charge that accuses him of hiring and transporting escorts across state lines to engage in prostitution from 2009 to 2024. They alleged that his sexual acts –  which include filming sexual acts – with everyone involved were consensual and not worthy of prosecution. The memorandum read:

“Many couples, including wealthy high-profile couples, involve third parties in their sexual relationships, sometimes for implicit or explicit remuneration.”

The music producer’s filing highlighted several high-profile white men, including former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, who faced the same accusations as Diddy, but none was charged using the Mann Act.

“Such conduct has never previously triggered Mann Act liability,” it read.

Diddy’s counsel also asked that the federal charge be thrown out as the Mann Act is steeped in racist history. They noted that it was originally known as the White-Slave Traffic Act and created to protect white women from black men.

Diddy’s Upcoming Trial

The music mogul’s current battle against one of the federal charges against him is one of many legal battles he will face in the coming days. The rapper is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Charges against him include racketeering conspiracy, forced sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has been denied bail and will face the court on May 5.

However, the musician denied any wrongdoing on several occasions despite settling with his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, a day after she filed her lawsuit against him. In her lawsuit, Cassie alleged Diddy physically and sexually abused her. Her lawyers have not confirmed whether she will testify against Diddy in his upcoming trial.

Diddy’s lawyers have been working hard to see him walk free, and the federal charge dismissal is their latest weapon. One can only wait to see where the whole proceeding will lead.
