Rev. Edward-Richard Hinds whose political connections are known is facing charges of sexual abuse. The children’s mentor has been accused of abusing a teenage boy. Although the clergyman is currently in detention, he pleads Not guilty.
Per the New York Post, on Thursday morning, Hinds’ home was searched by the police following a signed warrant. The cleric was then led out in handcuffs and in no time, he was arraigned in the Brooklyn Court. Sources confirmed that the 48-year-old was suspected of committing sexual crimes against a minor.
It all happened in December 2022, his victim— a 16-year-old was allegedly sexually violated numerous times. But it was not until August that his crimes came to light. Hinds, who led The GodSquad, a Clergy Council, was ousted by his group. The GodSquad stripped him of his leadership role. Next, the faith-based group reported the matter to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.
The disgraced preacher also lost his spot at the Citywide Clergy Collective. This was an anti-gun violence program spearheaded by the city’s mayor, Eric Adams. Following the removal, a representative made a statement to dissociate the Rev from the group. The City Hall spokesperson maintained that the accusations were appalling. The rep added that Hinds was never a City member.
The Citywide Clergy Collective has expressed its commitment to justice. They hope to work with other local faith-based groups. Meanwhile, Hinds has been kept behind bars with a $5,000 bail and $30,000 bond. Additionally, the prosecutors have labeled him a flight risk.
No attorney from the defense has made any comments but the accused has pleaded not guilty. His charges include two counts of sexual misconduct, third-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, and endangering the welfare of a child.
