A teacher at Calhoun City High School in Mississippi is no longer employed after mistakenly giving students beef-flavored dog treats, believing they were regular beef jerky.
The incident occurred during a classroom birthday celebration, where eight students ate at least a bite of the treats before the error was realized, WLBT reports.
One student reported a stomachache, prompting the school nurse to contact poison control as a precaution, although no serious health issues were reported.
Dr. Lisa Langford, superintendent of the Calhoun County School District, confirmed the incident and stated that parents were immediately informed.
The teacher, whose name has not been released, was relieved of their duties following the mishap. The district emphasized its commitment to student safety in handling the situation swiftly.
