Country music legend Dolly Parton has announced the passing of her husband, Carl Dean, at the age of 82. The couple, who shared nearly 60 years of marriage, first met in 1964 and tied the knot two years later.
In a heartfelt statement, the 79-year-old singer revealed that Carl had passed away in Nashville on March 3rd. Expressing her deep love and gratitude, Dolly reflected on their time together, stating:
“Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”
Carl Thomas Dean, a private individual who largely avoided the spotlight, is survived by his siblings, Sandra and Donnie. A private ceremony will be held for his immediate family.
Despite Dolly’s global fame, Carl preferred a life away from public attention. Over the years, she often spoke about their relationship, emphasizing their strong bond, humor, and mutual respect. In 2024, during an interview, she shared that Carl had attended an awards show with her only once, in 1967, before deciding that public events were not for him.
Throughout their marriage, the couple relied on humor to navigate challenges. Dolly described Carl as a “homebody” who enjoyed supporting her from a distance. In a past interview, she recalled how her song “Jolene” was inspired by a bank teller who caught Carl’s attention, a moment they both laughed about.
Though they never had children, Dolly embraced her career and often referred to all children as “hers.” She credited their enduring love to honesty, laughter, and deep admiration for each other. As she once said:
“At the end of the day, we love each other madly.”
Dolly Parton’s husband’s passing marks the end of a remarkable love story, one that she will undoubtedly cherish forever.
