Driver Facing Murder Charges After Fatal Hit-and-Run Of A Woman She Knew, Reports Say

OFFICE OF THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY PROSECUTOR

A woman from New Jersey has been charged with murder for reportedly striking a friend with her vehicle and leaving her on the roadside. Officials say 22-year-old Breanna Rowley struck 21-year-old Caroline Bump at high speed in Millville on Oct. 21, per PEOPLE.

Per the prosecutor’s office, a review of nearby surveillance footage revealed that the incident occurred at 11:11 p.m.

According to the prosecutor’s office,

“The State alleges that the parties knew each other and were together prior to the criminal conduct that caused the victim’s death.”

After hitting Bump, Rowley reportedly left the scene without offering help or calling for assistance. Two hours later, a motorist discovered Bump on the roadside, dead from the brutal injuries caused by the high-speed impact, the prosecutor’s office added.

Prosecutors claim Rowley attempted to hide the damage to her car and her involvement after the encounter. Officials began searching for her immediately. Initially charged with obstruction and tampering on Oct. 25, she faced murder charges on Nov. 7 and is in jail awaiting a hearing.
