Drunk Father Allegedly Smothers 5-Month-Old Baby After Passing Out, Arrested On Manslaughter Charges

Daniel Eastman, a 25-year-old resident of #Paradise, #California, has been arrested on charges of manslaughter and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury or death after allegedly causing the death of his 5-month-old baby. 

Authorities report that Eastman, while intoxicated, fell asleep on the infant, leading to the child’s death, PEOPLE reports.

On January 19, 2025, at approximately 11:53 p.m., the Paradise Police Department responded to a report of a 5-month-old baby not breathing at a residence in the 800 block of Violet Way. Upon arrival, officers initiated life-saving measures, which were continued by CAL FIRE and Butte Emergency Medical Services. Despite these efforts, the infant was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Following an investigation, detectives determined that Eastman had been intoxicated and fell asleep on the baby, resulting in the child’s death. He was subsequently arrested and booked into Butte County Jail, with bail set at $80,000. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, and the Department of Justice has been called in to assist by processing the scene and collecting evidence.  

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released further details. Eastman is expected to appear in court in the coming days to face the charges against him.
