Eboni K Williams has disproved the idea of people getting out of jail on good time as a legal myth. She said this while discussing Karen Huger’s one-year suspended sentence. Williams noted that the judge has full discretion on the sentencing. She also opined that the judge’s attitude indicated that the reality TV star needed to serve her full term.
Eboni K Williams Explains Karen Huger’s Late Jail Sentence
Eboni K Williams was with Carlos King on his Reality With The King podcast when she discussed a legal myth. The attorney commented on Karen Huger’s DUI case and sentencing and explained why she didn’t serve a jail sentence early. When King asked her, “How can someone get three DUIs and never have jail time to begin with? What is the law in all of this?” Williams replied:
“Somebody can get up to four DUIs, as we see is the case with Karen, and never serve a day in jail up until this point because of two words: Judge’s discretion. That’s the why.”
The television show host explained that the law worked differently in each state. She noted that sentencing in the State of Maryland, where Huger has been sentenced, is entirely up to the judge. Eboni K Williams added before discussing the legal myth:
“Prosecutors can make a recommendation… [however,] the judge is not bound by it, Carlos. Judge ain’t got to do a damn thing, but what the judge wants to do.”
Williams stated that Huger got a jail sentence this time because of her prior DUI records.
Eboni K Williams Calls Early Jail Release A Legal Myth
After talking about the law and how it affected Huger, King asked his guest a question on many people’s minds. After Huger received a two-year jail sentence with one suspended year, people wondered if she would stay in jail and how the reality TV star would cope in prison. King asked if Huger would spend a full year in jail or get a lesser sentence if she behaved well. Eboni K Williams called it a legal myth.
“I think you and a lot folks Carlos watching too many goddamn Lifetime movies,” she said.
She continued:
“I don’t know where y’all getting this um good behavior out in six months s*** from.
Eboni K Williams further said it was just as impossible as common marriage, which is also a legal myth. She explained that it only worked if there was “a real existential issue that works on behalf of the correction Institute itself. For instance, if the facility is overcrowded, if a global pandemic like COVID happens again.”
Eboni K Williams Explains How Karen Huger Can Get An Early Release
Eboni K Williams further told Carlos King that the judge had no intention of letting Huger go early. She mentioned that the prosecution recommended a six-month sentence, but the judge gave the 61-year-old RHOP star more.
“The judge could have very easily sentenced her to six months if he intended for her to serve six months, so there is no intention by this judge of her to be getting out early, for her to be released for good behavior,” the TV host said.
However, Eboni K Williams admitted that certain situations might cause the judge to release the reality TV star early. These included Huger’s spouse getting sick in their daughter’s absence, in which case Kuger would need to care for him. She said the real housewife’s “lawyer would have to file a motion to ask for compassionate release or something of the sort” in that case.
Eboni K Williams’s discussion has educated many on certain legal myths and Karen Huger’s situation. Hopefully, the reality TV star will turn over a new leaf so she doesn’t get into a more serious accident after serving her sentence.
