El Salvador’s ‘mega-prison’ will no longer be where the country’s deadliest gang members, drug lords, or criminals go. President Nayib Bukele is entering into a new deal with the U.S. to provide them with his country’s jailhouse. This will be open to convicted criminals of the United States as well as illegal immigrants.

Following a meeting with Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, the 43-year-old president mentioned that he had struck a new deal. Per his X account, Bukele explained that this deal to outsource the 40,000-person capacity prison will come at a cost.

While he believes that the U.S. government will only part with a few dollars, this relatively low fee will boost his country’s economy. According to Rubio, having an extension inside of El Salvador’s mega-prison is an “extraordinary migratory agreement.”

This deal would mean that U.S. citizens convicted of a crime can be transported to the jailhouse. Illegal immigrants—offenders who are also slated for deportation are not spared as they will be sent off to El Salvador’s mega-prison.

Indeed, since Bukele became president, the mega-prison has been one of El Salvador’s most talked about. It is known as a confinement for terrorists and has scored points for being one of the largest prison houses in Latin America. It will now be a place where U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants are sent.

Without mincing words, President Trump has affirmed that he would do away with illegal immigrants who have committed crimes in the U.S. repeatedly. Interestingly, the POTUS isn’t sparing his countrymen either. But CNN confirms that Trump’s decision to export U.S. citizens might witness a pushback.
