According to statistics obtained from The Marist poll, many New Yorkers look forward to Eric Adams’ resignation. The former law enforcement officer turned politician has made history with his indictment charges. This leaves many feeling that he is guilty even before he goes to trial. The Marist poll with a record margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 gathered that 69% of residents have lost faith in the Mayor. The poll was conducted among 1,073 adults residing in the city. This was between September 30 and October 1, 2024. Although it is uncertain if these individuals are registered voters, still they voted for Adams’ resignation.

Poll: Overwhelming Majority Want Mayor Eric Adams to Step Down After Scandal

Sharing the same sentiments is 71% of his Democratic party. They have also called for Eric Adams’ resignation. Meanwhile, 81% maintain that Adams should be blacklisted and not run for office again. 65% believe he is guilty while 24% think his conduct was unprofessional. This poll comes right after the New York City mayor was hit with multiple indictment charges. It included conspiracy, wire fraud, and bribery charges.

He is accused of advancing the interest of the Turkish government through relations with a foreign politician. Between Adams and the Turks, there was an exchange of gifts, money, and favors. The mayor allegedly accepted money for his campaign. Following the charges, some of his aides and close workers resigned. However, Eric Adams has remained determined to fight the charges while claiming his innocence, refusing resignation.

Despite being the only sitting mayor to have bagged the charges he claimed he was being targeted. Adams also maintained that he would not be stepping down amid the witch hunt. If correct, it may be due to the Mayor’s recent outcry over New York’s migrant crisis.

Unfortunately, the politician doesn’t have formidable backing from the people. Despite his quest to prove his innocence 63% believe that Gov Kathy Hochul should stop him. According to the poll, these registered voters want the Governor to use her power to enforce Adams’ resignation.

The NY Post reports that Dr. Lee Miringoff of the Marist Poll feels empathetic towards the Mayor. Lee explained that the people already found him guilty and wanted him out of office. While the mayor already submitted himself to authorities, he still doubles down on his innocence.
