Ex-Cop At Center Of Sex Scandal Now Faces Kidnapping Charges In Tennessee After Allegedly Holding Family Hostage

Burrel "Chip" Davis(CITY OF LA VERGNE)

Burrel “Chip” Davis, the former police chief of La Vergne, Tennessee, was arrested on January 29, 2025, on multiple charges, including four counts of especially aggravated kidnapping. This arrest comes just a month after Davis was charged with aggravated stalking in December 2024.

According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, Davis allegedly entered his estranged wife’s home around 7 p.m. to confront her about a man she was seeing. Inside the residence were his estranged wife and her daughters, Law & Crime reports.

Davis reportedly confiscated all their phones, preventing them from calling for help. He also allegedly found a firearm in the home and threatened to harm himself.

Davis was subsequently charged with four counts of felony especially aggravated kidnapping, felony aggravated assault, two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault, and four counts of misdemeanor interference with emergency calls. He is currently held on a $145,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rutherford County General Sessions Court on March 5.

This incident follows Davis’s December 24, 2024, arrest for aggravated stalking and violating an order of protection. He was apprehended at a Murfreesboro apartment complex and released on a $3,000 bond.

Davis’s legal troubles began after his termination as La Vergne Police Chief in February 2023, following a significant sexual misconduct scandal within the department. An investigation revealed that Davis “impeded the initial investigation into sexual misconduct” and “permitted — if not encouraged — conduct potentially contrary to state and federal law.”
