A tragic incident unfolded in Rosedale, #Maryland, on Christmas Eve, when 30-year-old Mark Jones allegedly shot and killed his 4-year-old son, Jacobi Jones, during a domestic dispute.

According to charging documents, the events began around 6 a.m. when Jones entered the bedroom of his partner, Promyss Marcelle, and an argument ensued, Law & Crime reports.

During the confrontation, young Jacobi asked his father to leave the room. In response, Jones allegedly retrieved a handgun from a backpack, loaded it, and fired, fatally striking his son in the head. Marcelle and her 1-year-old daughter were also injured in the shooting. Jones then attempted to take his own life but survived and was later arrested.

Marcelle, who is now recovering from her injuries, spoke about the devastating loss of her son. “He kept trying to open the presents but I would tell him you’ve got to wait till Christmas. And he never got to open those presents,” she recalled. She described Jacobi as a joyful child who would “light up a room” and was “always smiling.”

Jones now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, child abuse, and assault. He is currently being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

A GoFundMe page has been established to assist with funeral and recovery costs.
