Alvin Francis, a 41-year-old father of three from Queens, was fatally stabbed following a confrontation over a bus seat in Brooklyn on Mother’s Day weekend, according to the New York Police Department.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, aboard the J90 shuttle bus near Crescent Street and Etna Street in Cypress Hills, reported NBC New York. Francis and another man reportedly got into a verbal dispute that turned violent.
He was stabbed in the stomach before the suspect fled the scene. No arrests have been made, as confirmed by police on Monday, May 12. Francis was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His wife, Candice Todman-Francis, told the New York Daily News that she grew concerned when he didn’t return home. Tracking his phone led her to the local precinct, where officers later delivered the devastating news. “He got into a tussle on the bus,” she recalled being told, though details remain scarce.
The couple had been together for 21 years, married for five, and planned to renew their vows in August. They were raising three sons and had planned a Mother’s Day dinner that evening.
Neighbors described Francis as a devoted family man. “Everybody’s saddened by it,” one told the Daily News. “He was hardworking, always about his family.”
Alvin Francis had reportedly been working that day to earn extra money for his son’s upcoming graduation, according to News 12 Brooklyn and PEOPLE.
