An Ohio man was injured after he reportedly tried teaching his young son how to drive while drunk, reports PEOPLE

Clejuan Marquis Williams, 36, was allegedly

“intoxicated”

when he allowed his 9-year-old son to take the wheel on Sunday, Oct. 6. This information comes from an affidavit filed by Officer Nicole Tucker and reviewed by PEOPLE.

While his son was in the driver’s seat, Williams allegedly

“instructed”

him

“to press one of the pedals,”

but the child

“did not know which one that was,”

and accidentally

“placed the vehicle in reverse,”

according to the affidavit. The car then rolled back and hit a pole across the street, as noted by the officer, who spoke to several witnesses and referenced a video.

Tucker alleged in the affidavit that the father

“violated the duty of care and protection for his child by allowing him to operate a motor vehicle,”

and that his

“actions created a substantial risk of harm”

to both the father and

“the very young child standing right near the vehicle as this occurred.”

Williams is facing charges for one count of first-degree misdemeanor endangerment of children by creating a substantial risk to their health or safety, as well as wrongful entrustment of a vehicle to a person who does not have a valid license, according to summonses issued in the cases and obtained by PEOPLE.

He was taken to the hospital, but there’s no update on his condition, according to WTOL 11. Officer Tucker mentioned in the affidavit that Williams received a copy of the summons because he couldn’t be booked due to his injuries. It’s not clear if he was booked later at the Lucas County Corrections Center, but an online record shows he wasn’t listed as incarcerated since Monday. The affidavit also stated that no one else was reported injured.
